Daniel Harty is a corporate expert with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). Harty assumed the position in December of 2009.


Background

Before joining the FDIC, Dan was general counsel to Iowa Grain Company, a Chicago-based registered futures commission merchant (FCM). He joined the firm in 2004 and was responsible for all of the firm’s legal and compliance matters. While there, his interest and expertise in the commodity, derivative and over-the-counter (OTC) markets evolved to include the policies behind their rules and regulations.

Harty has also represented clients in private practice covering a wide range of issues primarily under the commodities and securities laws.[1]Before he became a licensed attorney, he worked for the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) in its market surveillance department.

He was with the exchange for eight years and rose to the level of supervisor before entering law school. During his tenure, he supervised and conducted audits and investigations of member firms covering issues related to positions, trading, clearing, margin and operations.

Education

He received a bachelor’s degree in 1993 from the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana and his J.D. from the DePaul University College of Law in 2002.
