Dimensional Fund Advisors is a firm devoted to managing index funds of small companies. It was formed by two University of Chicago business school alumni - David G. Booth and Rex A. Sinquefield.[1]

Booth and his family made the largest donation in the history of the University of Chicago's business school. It was also the largest gift given to any business school in the world. The combination of an up-front payment, the income stream, and the equity interest provided by the Booth gift was valued at $300 million.[2] In recognition of the donation, the school was renamed the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

History

In 1981, they launched their first strategy based on research documenting the performance of US small cap stocks. Their second strategy, a short-term fixed income portfolio was launched in 1983. Dimensional Fund Advisors have offices in North America, Europe, and Asia. [3]
