Yoshimi Watanabe was minister of State for Financial Services and Administrative Reform with the Japanese Financial Services Agency, from October 2007 through August 2008.
For several years, Watanabe  served as an aide to his father, Michio Watanabe who was Deputy Prime Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade and Industry. The younger Watanabe was elected to his first term as a member of the House of Representatives  in 1996 and has served three subsequent terms.
Watanabe graduated from the Political Department of Economics at Waseda University and is a graduate of Law from Chuo University.
